Amsterdam this year celebrates its 750th anniversary. From 22 March 2025 to 2 November 2025 therefore, the public will be able to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It will be allowed to climb the 216 steps – 40 metres – to the roof of the New Church in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. From the platform, that has been placed on the roof, one has an unforgettable view of the city and the renovation of the spire on the roof. Visible are the Westerkerk, the Central Station, the nearby Royal Palace and more modern icons in the city.

Visitors will enter a 17th-century stairwell on Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal to climb to the roof. This entrance was originally built for a 115-meter-high tower, which was never completed. You then reach the platform on the roof via a temporary scaffolding staircase. Visitors leave the platform via a second temporary staircase on Dam Square.

The roof will be open almost daily from 11am to 6pm. On 5 May 2025 it is open from 1pm to 6pm. The platform is closed on 14, 15, 16 and 26 April 4 May and 1,2 and 3 August 2025. For more information see the website of the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church).
