The Bayerisches Staatsministerium der Finanzen und für Heimat (Bavarian State Ministry of Finance and Home Affairs) on 15 March 2023 presented the balance sheet for 2022 of the Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung (Bavarian Palace Department). Very pleased they say: “Almost three times as many visitors as in 2021! Bavaria’s palaces, castles, residences and cultural monuments once again welcomed significantly more guests last year. More than 3.5 million people visited the sights of the Bavarian Palace Department in 2022 and explored their history.” The palaces and castles attracted even more visitors than in 2019, which was the year before the Corona pandemic.
For palace and castle lovers it is also interesting that in the announcement by the minister Albert Füracker it is said that the work in the throne room of Neuschwanstein Castle has been completed. The first construction phase of the overall restoration of the Johannisburg Castle in Aschaffenburg has almost finished. The historical appartments, the branch gallery of the Bavarian State Painting Collections and the parament chamber will reopen at the end of April 2023.
In addition, the cooperation project “Biodiversity in Garden Monuments II” of the Palace Department with the State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection in the historic gardens of Seehof, Schönbusch and Linderhof will be completed in the course of 2023 with a species- and monument-friendly maintenance concept for the Linderhof Palace Park.
