Sadly in the early morning of Monday 13 February 2023 a selection of Chinese ceramics were stolen from the Princessehof in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. The objects were part of an installation dedicated to the Chinese New Year in the exhibition Feest! (Celebrate!).

As far as known eleven pieces of ceramics were stolen. Seven were left behind in the Doelestraat near the museum, broken in pieces during the escape of the burglars. Four others pieces of ceramics are still missing. It is yet unclear how many people were involved.

Because of the police investigation and further safety measures the museum has closed its doors until 19 February 2023. The museum says: “The perpetrators seemed to have specific knowledge and to have struck in a targeted manner.” An earlier attempt on Wednesday 1 February 2023 was not successful.

The exhibition opened its doors on 29 October 2022 and will be open until 20 August 2023. It also includes tableware from the Royal Collection of the Dutch royal family.
